About David Speace

David Speace I've been taking pictures since my days in the U.S. Navy. While stationed in Sicily in 1971 I took pictures of the Targa Florio race in Palermo. While studying communications at Temple University I photographed the Liberty Bell before it was moved from its traditional location in Independence Hall during the run-up to the Bi-Centennial celebration. I have spent time in Maine and photographed a pair of historic wooden schooners aground on one of the river inlets. The ships were featured on 60-Minutes. Because they were not preserved, over a 50 year period, they became rotted and collapsed into a pile of rubbish. The ships no longer exist, but I have the pictures that show they did exist! I have photographed other sea, ship and shore images. It is a subject that interests me. I live in Amish country in Lancaster County and have had the opportunity to photograph farm and related scenes. My approach to photography is to add an appropriate title to the bottom of the picture. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but a title will tell the viewer something about the picture, where it was taken, a humorist comment relating to something obvious about the picture or maybe not so obvious. All the pictures are edited in Photoshop. I especially enjoy making posters and thanks to Photoshop I can add the words to go along with the pictures and always striving to answer a question about the picture. Or, to make a statement about the picture, maybe with a touch of humor. Why was that picture taken? Oh, I liked the humor in this picture, like the "Old New Holland" picture of a New Holland combine...it was an obvious title for me. There's a picture of a real "She Shed" and a quadratrac tractor that looks like it came from a Mad Max movie.

Just to finish up this short "about me", I have been a videographer for 35 years as well as a photographer. So I've spent my whole life pursuing and gathering images. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. I love talking shop! You can also visit this website, www.dzpvideo.com.
