Description
In 1873, residents petitioned for a bridge “from Churchtown to Spring Grove” at Isaac Weaver’s Mill. Poor financial conditions kept this bridge from being built and finally in July 1878 two of the three County Commissioners approved construction of this bridge. Lancaster County Commissioners began accepting bridge proposals in August 1878. This bridge was completed in 1878 by B.J. Carter (structure) and J.F. Staulffer (masonry) for $1468.06. Isaac Weaver (1825-1891) purchased the adjacent mill property in 1860 and this bridge bears his name today. Weaver was a miller for many years and raised 11 children near this bridge. Weaver’s Mill was willed to his son in 1892, Isaac W. Weaver, who owned it until 1908. The bridge spans the Conestoga River, which runs through Lancaster County. The bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places.
